The life & success of Rev Samuel Verbryck

The date is April 18th 1791 & a boy named Samuel Verbryck was born. Samuel was born in Raritan, NJ. His parents didn’t know that their son would grow up to be a successful public figure in a small town located in Rockland County.

Rev. Samuel Verbryck was the great grandfather of James Verbryck Clarke (the man who built & owned my home 🙂 ) Rev Samuel Verbryck was minister & one of the pastors of the Dutch Reformed Church in Tappan,NY. On April 7th 1750, Verbryck married Susanna Van Der Linde in Hackensack NJ, 10 years later their welcomed their first son Samuel G Verbryck (pictured below) as stated on https://emuseum.nyhistory.org/objects/43066/samuel-garretson-verbryck-17611849

“He was a soldier in the Continental Army, Supervisor of Orangetown, Rockland County, New York, and a member of the Committee of 1821 to revise the New York state constitution. The artist, his son, chose to spell his surname “Ver Bryck.” Clearly, this family as a long lineage of success.

5 years later, Rev Verbryck & his wife Susanna welcomed another son named Ralph “Roelof” Verbryck. I unfortunately was not able to find much information about him.

There is still more to learn & explore about the Verbryck/Clarke family. Hopefully, I am able to find more answers soon as time goes on.
